Legend Danang Golf Resort (Nicklaus Course)
About
A flat, water-heavy Jack Nicklaus design with six tee boxes
Set amidst the creeks, swamps and paddy fields of a low-lying floodplain, alongside the picturesque Coco river, the Nicklaus Course at Da Nang Golf Club offers a tough, enjoyable challenge. Despite water being an almost constant factor, wide fairways, generous greens and no less than six tee boxes mean golfers of all abilities can give a good account of themselves, although a couple of long water carries might prove daunting for high handicappers.
With numerous lakes and creeks bisecting the course, you can't stray too far off line, and some of the fairways and greens are only protected from flooding by the retaining walls which surround them. These wooden walls, imported from the USA, give the course a slight Floridian feel, offset by some lovely of the local villages with the city of Danang as a backdrop.
Keeping your ball dry is the key to scoring well, and with all the par 5s clocking in under 500 yards there's plenty of opportunity to chalk up a birdie or two on this very flat course. All holes have been floodlit, offering the opportunity to get in 18 holes starting late afternoon or early evening. While they can often be an eyesore, here the floodlights have been cleverly disguised behind the many palm trees.
Away from the course there's a driving range and a large clubhouse, both shared with the Norman course. You'll find a well-stocked pro shop and an excellent selection of local Vietnamese dishes and international golf snacks, with great views over the course on offer as you enjoy a post-round beer.
Reviews
Course is fantastic, everything is so-so
Really loved the course, although it was tough. The greens were a bit slow and I found really inconsistent (we played Montgomerie a few hours before BRG and my putting was vastly worse) but that may just be me making excuses for my bad putting :) Aside from the golf itself the staff and caddies were pretty lack luster at best. It really took away from the round. It started immediately when we excited the car where we had a very rude and pushy caddie leader scolding us for brining our own water and beer, which were were genuinely ignorant that we weren't supposed to. They then tracked us down to the first hole and made us pay ~$30 corkage fee for bringing our own drinks. Its kind of silly when you're paying quite a premium to play there. The other smaller things but that ultimately layered on top of that poor experience was 1.) The checkin was confusing and the women working there seemed more interested in chatting between themselves than explaining anything to us (we had no idea what to do or where to go after they checked us in) 2.) the restaurant took forever to make our food, i.e. 30 minutes for a sandwich and salad 3.) the caddies were really bad at reading the greens, and seems totally uninterested in doing anything to help us, it really felt like we were imposing on their day the whole round, which just weighs on you during an already mentally taxing game. Anyways, I'm not sure I'll be back to the course, I'd definitely go back to Montgomerie or try Hoiana Shores instead.Great caddies
Greens a bit on the slow side. Pace of play too slow and no one does anything about it. Great Nicklaus design. Challenging. Night golf was spectacular.Overall disappointed with whole experience
I thought the check-in procedure to very long-winded and was disappointed with the amount we had to pay as a bond for golf club rental. Also, the round took us close to 6 hours, and was overall disappointed with the whole experience, especially given the cost of green fees, caddies fees, and club hire. The layout of the course was good however the overall condition of the fairways, greens and bunkers were not to the standard if would have expected for the cost of the green fees.Course Info
