About
Exclusive and visually stunning links course from Robert Trent Jones II
Set within a huge 2,500-acre site just south of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the City of Lanterns, Hoiana Shores Golf Club is a breathtaking links course that deservedly picked up the accolade of Best Course in Vietnam at the 2022 Asian Golf Awards. Running through the dunes alongside the stunning Vietnamese coastline, with the pristine Zeon Zoysia fairways contrasting beautifully with the jagged edges of the sandy wasteland, the course plays fast and firm in a manner reminiscent of classic UK links courses, while offering a wide range of strategic options.
A par-71 course that plays a touch over 7,000 yards from the back tees, Hoiana Shores Golf Club is a real treat for the senses, especially on the four holes that play right on the edge of the water, the waves of the Eastern Sea crashing into the beach as you play your way around the course. In keeping with the nickname of the nearby town, lanterns adorn the pins instead of flags, and it all adds up to a magnificent experience.
The course looks like it was always meant to be there, the rumpled fairways winding through the dunes in a way that never feels contrived. There are almost no trees or elevation changes; instead, scruffy mounds and hillocks meet sandy wasteland and raked bunkers, the gorgeous fairways splitting and winding through the obstacles to provide a visually arresting treat that will test the best.
The Bermuda TifEagle greens are large and shapely, and you're sure to be facing some long, raking putts that break wildly as you vie for par. Thankfully the green speeds aren't murderous, meaning you should stand a chance of getting up and down as you negotiate the swales.
Despite the uniform beauty of the course, there's a wide variety of challenges, enhanced by the wind which, when it's up, can leave some par 5s almost driveable while others a struggle to reach in regulation. If you can find the right position from the tee, the firm ground makes the run up shot a good tactic on approach.
It must be said that this is by no means a beginner's course, with a number of forced carries from the tee, unusual tee boxes that often don't offer a flat lie, and sand everywhere. If you're nervy playing from bunkers, you could be in for a long day, but that's not to say that it's not a fun course, because it is, and the run from 15 to 17 will have you reaching for your camera.
Hoiana Shores Golf Club is part of the larger Hoiana complex and integrated resort, including luxury hotels, entertainment outlets, residential communities, and retail complexes. The clubhouse and changing rooms are top-notch, and the steakhouse outlet in the clubhouse is excellent. There's alsoa PGA golf academy, driving range, pro shop and a par-3 playoff hole.
Overall, it's a golfing experience is of the highest quality, offering an unforgettable round of golf and 5-star luxury resort facilities and services. Hoiana Shores Golf Club is a must-play on any golf holiday in Vietnam.
